Skills Inventory

A skills inventory is a structured record of the skills available in a workforce. It may include proficiency, experience, qualifications and when the evidence was last checked.

Example

Before assigning a new project, a manager searches the inventory for employees with spreadsheet modelling experience and confirms their current availability and interest.

What to keep in mind

Keep the record current and distinguish claimed skills from demonstrated proficiency. A past qualification or completed course does not necessarily establish present competence for a particular assignment.
