Job Specification

A job specification states the knowledge, skills, qualifications or other requirements needed to perform a job. It describes the person-related criteria used alongside the job description.

Example

A maintenance role specifies an appropriate technical qualification, ability to interpret equipment diagrams and experience diagnosing faults, separating essential from desirable requirements.

What to keep in mind

Requirements should be justified by the work. Demanding an unnecessary degree or an arbitrary number of years can exclude capable applicants without providing better evidence of suitability.
