Instructional Design

Instructional design is the deliberate planning of learning objectives, activities and assessment to help people gain a capability. It connects what learners need to do with how they will practise and receive feedback.

Example

A designer creates a realistic payroll-error exercise, provides worked examples and checks whether learners can identify and correct similar errors independently.

What to keep in mind

Choose the method after defining the outcome and learner context. A polished presentation can still be ineffective if it provides no relevant practice or way to assess understanding.
