Organisation Design

Organisation design determines how work, roles, responsibilities and coordination should be arranged to deliver an organisation's goals. It considers more than reporting lines alone.

Example

A company redesigns customer delivery around cross-functional teams because repeated handoffs between separate departments are causing delays and unclear ownership.

What to keep in mind

Begin with the work and decisions required. Redrawing an organisation chart will not solve problems caused by conflicting incentives, missing skills or unclear authority unless those issues are addressed too.
