Experiential Learning

Experiential learning develops understanding through doing, reflecting on the experience and applying what was learned. Work assignments, simulations and supervised practice can provide these opportunities.

Example

A new team leader runs a small project, reviews the decisions with a mentor and changes their approach before leading the next assignment.

What to keep in mind

Experience alone does not guarantee learning. Match the challenge to the learner's readiness and include feedback and reflection, while protecting colleagues or customers from avoidable risks during practice.
