Drug Testing

Drug testing checks for specified substances or indicators of use under a defined process. In employment, whether testing is permitted and how results may be used depend on law and the role.

Example

An employer in a regulated safety-sensitive setting follows the authorised testing procedure and ensures results are handled by appropriately qualified people.

What to keep in mind

Testing can raise privacy, consent and discrimination issues. A result requires proper interpretation and process safeguards; a general company preference does not establish legal authority to test everyone.
