Disciplinary Action

Disciplinary action is an employer's formal response to alleged or established misconduct under applicable procedures. Possible outcomes depend on the facts, policy, contract and law.

Example

After investigating a reported policy breach and hearing the employee's response, an employer decides whether a warning or another proportionate outcome is justified.

What to keep in mind

An allegation is not a finding. Follow a fair process, consider relevant evidence and representation rights, and avoid assuming that every mistake is misconduct rather than a capability or process issue.
