Affirmative Action

Affirmative action refers to specific measures intended to address disadvantage or improve opportunity for designated groups. Its legal meaning, availability and requirements vary by jurisdiction and programme.

Example

An employer reviews whether a targeted outreach programme is permitted or required under the rules that apply to its organisation and recruitment process.

What to keep in mind

Do not assume that preferential selection or quotas are universally lawful. Legal frameworks can change, so distinguish outreach, remedial measures and selection preferences and obtain current guidance before implementation.
