Absconding

Absconding is an informal employment term, often used in India, for a worker stopping attendance without communication or completing an exit process. It does not by itself establish the legal end of employment.

Example

An employee misses several scheduled days and cannot initially be reached, prompting the employer to document reasonable contact attempts and follow its procedure.

What to keep in mind

Do not assume intention from silence alone; illness or an emergency may be involved. Follow applicable notice and fair-process requirements before classifying the departure or making decisions about final pay.
