Upskilling

Upskilling develops additional or more advanced skills that help a person perform their existing work or a closely related role. It responds to changing tools, methods or responsibilities.

Example

An accountant learns to automate spreadsheet reconciliations so they can handle more complex reporting within the finance team.

What to keep in mind

Agree how the new skill will be practised and used. Completing training without access to relevant work, tools or feedback may produce little lasting improvement in capability.
