Performance Calibration

Performance calibration compares proposed employee ratings across managers or teams to improve consistency. Participants examine whether similar standards and evidence have been applied.

Example

Before finalising reviews, managers compare examples supporting high ratings and discuss why similar results have been judged differently in two departments.

What to keep in mind

Calibration should not force ratings into a distribution without justification. Account for different roles and conditions, and avoid changing an employee's rating solely to satisfy a quota.
