Job Enlargement

Job enlargement adds more tasks of a similar level to an existing job. It broadens the range of work without necessarily increasing decision-making authority or responsibility.

Example

An administrator who previously entered invoices also prepares routine payment summaries using the same level of supervision and established procedures.

What to keep in mind

More tasks do not automatically make a role more satisfying. Review workload and capability, and distinguish enlargement from job enrichment, which usually adds autonomy, responsibility or more meaningful decision-making.
