Inpatriate

An inpatriate is an employee transferred from an overseas operation into the organisation's home-country or headquarters operation. The term is used in international assignment planning.

Example

A regional manager moves from an overseas subsidiary to headquarters for a year to work on global processes and share local market knowledge.

What to keep in mind

The label depends on the organisation's perspective and is not a legal status. Provide the same careful planning for immigration, tax, adjustment and return arrangements as for other international moves.
