HRIS

A human resources information system, or HRIS, stores and manages core employee information and related HR processes. It commonly holds personal records, roles, employment details and leave data.

Example

An employer uses an HRIS as the authorised source for employee identifiers, reporting lines and employment dates shared with payroll and other systems.

What to keep in mind

Product boundaries vary, so assess actual capabilities rather than labels. Establish data ownership, access controls and correction procedures before relying on system records for pay or employment decisions.
