Exit Interview

An exit interview is a conversation with a departing employee about their experience and reasons for leaving. It can provide feedback on management, work conditions and organisational practices.

Example

An HR adviser asks a resigning employee what influenced their decision, what worked well and what changes might have improved their experience.

What to keep in mind

One interview is a perspective, not proof of a general problem. Look for patterns, explain confidentiality limits and do not use the conversation to pressure someone to retract legitimate concerns.
