Employee Retention

Employee retention is an employer's ability to keep employees over time. It also refers to the practices used to address avoidable departures and support continued employment.

Example

A company reviews why experienced technicians leave and improves supervisor support, career opportunities and scheduling where the evidence identifies problems.

What to keep in mind

Retention does not mean preventing every departure. Focus on the roles and reasons that matter, and avoid using restrictive arrangements to substitute for addressing poor working conditions.
