Compressed Workweek

A compressed workweek places an employee's agreed working hours into fewer days, usually through longer working days. It is different from reducing total weekly hours.

Example

An employee works the agreed weekly hours across four longer days instead of five shorter days, subject to permitted limits and operational needs.

What to keep in mind

Check daily hours, rest, overtime and safety requirements before agreeing the pattern. The arrangement may suit some roles but can increase fatigue or complicate service coverage if poorly designed.
