Career Pathing

Career pathing identifies possible routes through roles or capabilities and the development needed to pursue them. Paths may involve promotion, lateral movement or deeper specialist expertise.

Example

A customer-service employee explores routes into team leadership or quality assurance, comparing the skills and experience required for each option.

What to keep in mind

Present routes as possibilities rather than guaranteed promotions. Business needs, available roles and individual preferences change, so development conversations should consider several realistic options.
