Wage and Hour Law

Wage and hour law regulates matters such as minimum pay, overtime, working time and related records. The phrase is especially common in US employment practice.

Example

An employer checks applicable federal and state requirements when deciding how to record hours and pay employees who work beyond a normal schedule.

What to keep in mind

The applicable rule can depend on location, coverage and exemptions. Company policy cannot remove mandatory protections, and an employee's agreement does not automatically make a non-compliant pay arrangement lawful.
