Training Needs Analysis

Training needs analysis identifies where learning could improve capability and what learners need to achieve. It examines requirements at organisational, team or individual level before selecting an intervention.

Example

After repeated reporting errors, an analyst checks the process and finds that staff need practice interpreting one data field rather than a complete spreadsheet course.

What to keep in mind

Confirm that lack of knowledge or skill is part of the problem. Training will not fix an unusable system, contradictory instructions or a workload that prevents people following the correct process.
