Probation Period

A probation period is an initial employment period used to assess suitability and provide support under stated terms. It may affect review or notice arrangements, subject to applicable law.

Example

A new employee has scheduled check-ins during the first months, receives feedback on agreed expectations and is told the outcome before the review deadline.

What to keep in mind

Probation does not mean an employee has no rights. Duration, extension, notice and confirmation rules depend on the contract and jurisdiction, and concerns should be handled fairly rather than left until the final day.
