Organisational Culture

Organisational culture is the pattern of shared assumptions, norms and behaviours that shapes how work gets done. It is reflected in everyday decisions as well as formal statements.

Example

A company says it values learning, and managers consistently make time to review mistakes and improve processes without humiliating the people involved.

What to keep in mind

Observe what is rewarded, tolerated and repeated. A values poster may describe an aspiration, while promotion decisions, workload expectations and responses to concerns reveal the culture employees actually experience.
