Inclusion · HR glossary

Inclusive Leadership

Inclusive leadership involves behaviours that help different people participate, contribute and access opportunities fairly. It includes listening, examining assumptions and addressing barriers or exclusion.

Example

A manager invites input through several channels and reviews who receives visible assignments, rather than repeatedly selecting only the most outspoken team members.

What to keep in mind

Inclusion requires decisions as well as respectful language. Assess whether access and outcomes improve, and avoid assuming that a leader's intention establishes how employees experience their behaviour.
