Candidate Shortlisting

Candidate shortlisting selects a smaller group of applicants for the next assessment stage using agreed criteria. It follows an initial review of the available evidence.

Example

Two reviewers score applications against required experience and a work sample, then invite the highest-scoring eligible candidates to a structured interview.

What to keep in mind

Record reasons and resolve scoring differences with evidence. A shortlist based mainly on familiar employers or personal similarity may exclude qualified applicants without improving the hiring decision.
